Grasshopper Tekla

How to start using Grasshopper Tekla Live Link?

If you’re a Tekla Structures user and find yourself missing certain components or functionalities in your projects, you don’t have to wait for the next release to address the issue. With Grasshopper, you can easily develop your own custom applications to meet your specific needs. With the Grasshopper Tekla Live Link, you can use the power of both programs to create complex models and automate tedious tasks, ultimately making your work more efficient and streamlined. In this blog post, you will find an inspirational webinar with the creator of this connection, step-by-step instructions on how to start using Grasshopper in Tekla Live Link and a lot of practical examples.

1. Webinar Grasshopper Tekla

I organized a live webinar titled – “Take Your Tekla Design to the Next Level with Grasshopper Live Link”. My guest was Sebastian ‘’Magician’’ Lindholm from Trimble, who is responsible for developing the Tekla Live Link connection with Grasshopper. He is the person who stands behind creating all components in this link and implementing all developments.

Sebastian shared valuable insights on the development history of the connection, future plans, and what he thinks about Grasshopper 2.0.

Agenda for the webinar session
The webinar was composed of three parts.

1.1. Development history and plans for Grasshopper Tekla Live Link

In the first part, I interviewed Sebastian and asked him about the development history of the connection and future plans. Sebastian also shares his thoughts on Grasshopper 2.0, which is sure to be of interest to anyone using this powerful tool.

1.2. Practical Examples

In the second part, Sebastian showcases interesting use cases of the Grasshopper in Tekla link and projects from the last Tekla BIM awards. You’ll learn the steps to design structures with Tekla Structures using the Grasshopper link and get actual experiences and advice on using the Tekla Live Link. What is really special is the fact that in more than 50% of projects competing in Tekla BIM awards, Grasshopper was used on a big scale.

1.3 Q&A session

The third part of the webinar was a Q&A session where attendees asked questions and got answers from both Sebastian and me. Tons of valuable knowledge together with Tips&Tricks.

Here is a link to the recording of this session. Watch it now, and you’ll learn about the benefits of parametric design and modelling of any structure type.

2. Comprehensive guide - Grasshopper Tekla

If you’re new to using Grasshopper in Tekla, it can be difficult to know where to start. While there are limited resources available online, it can be challenging to find practical examples and tutorials that cover everything you need to know. Additionally, setting up and placing your model and references in the correct coordinate system can be a challenge, and the lack of YouTube videos on the topic can make it difficult to troubleshoot.

However, there is a solution that can make the process much more manageable. “Start with Grasshopper in Tekla – A Comprehensive Guide” covers everything you need to know, providing a step-by-step guide that’s accessible to both beginners and advanced users. This guide takes you through the entire process of using Grasshopper in Tekla, from downloading and installing the software to advanced examples. With this guide, you’ll be able to overcome common obstacles and take your Tekla Structures skills to the next level.

Let’s take a closer look at the agenda of the guide:
